Admiral Nelson

Admiral Nelson is a failed Thoroughbred race horse who I found in a neighbor's pasture. Even though he hadn't been ridden in several years, his conformation and personality made him stand out among his pasture mates. We gave him a shot.

I occasionally doubt my decision, like when he tries his darnedest to spin out from under me, but he is such a snuggle bug; he'll forever have a home. He's been a challenge with leaps forward and leaps back, bolting one day and baulking the next, but his darling personality has been constant.

Admiral has only had spotty under saddle work for the last couple of years.  A fractured tibia laid him up for most of one summer and my work schedule has been a bit unforgiving.  Admiral has become a bit of a pet.  He goes out for fun on trail rides and other for kicks and giggles excursions.  He's also occasionally keeping my husband and horseless friends entertained, plus giving pony rides to young kids in exchange you many pats and treats.

In 2015, he got to "co-star" in a commercial for the ATC.  The finished product should be out soon.  Mid-winter he also moved in with my parents temporarily to fill a spot in their Fox Hunting string.  Fox Hunting is by far is favorite ridden activity.  Cookies and pets still trump it though and he greats me with a snuggle every time I go to visit.

At the end of the day, it’s all about what the horse is happiest doing, so I imagine our main focus will be showing off his charming personality and being a horse ambassador to the public. That is where he truly shines.
