The Team

Simon and Garfunkel once sang, "I am a rock, I am an island."  I may be a rock, but any horse person knows, you can't be an island.  It takes a team to keep horses and an even bigger team to show them.

When I was a kid, it was simple.  My mom took care of the logistics, picking feeds, finding a farrier, etc. We baled our own hay.  Our neighbors had horses, so we could swap out chores when someone was out of town.  Between my mother (the vet), my trainer, and my farrier, we could handle anything.  We also lived on the fringes of Kansas City which meant we had a huge pool of horse professionals to draw from.

Boy is it different now.  I live in the middle of nowhere, in fact, I might as well live on an island.  My farrier travels 140 miles one way.  If I need more than a phone call for a veterinary issue, it's a two hour drive or the cow vet in town.  Thankfully, my up bringing taught me the essentials of horse care.  I learned enough to know I can't do it alone.  That being said, thank you so much to the team that keeps the Fresh Perspective Horses sound and happy!
